Somali Earth Volunteers Actively Engages in Puntland Climate Security Conference

Somali Earth Volunteers (SEV) is pleased to have actively participated in the Puntland Climate Security Conference, which took place in Garowe, Puntland, Somalia, at the Grand Hotel on December 20-21, 2023.

The conference, organized by the Ministry of Environment, Rangeland, and Climate Change of Puntland, focused on the pressing challenges posed by climate change in the region. Key discussions revolved around the effects of climate change in Puntland, the critical role of youth and civil society organizations in mitigating these effects, raising awareness, and fostering collaboration and partnerships to enhance climate crisis prevention and mitigation efforts.

Attendees included representatives from civil society organizations, international agencies operating in Puntland, scholars, academics, universities, and business leaders. The conference was officially opened by the Minister of Environment, Rangeland, and Climate Change, H.E. Ahmed Yusuf, who underscored the significance of collective action in tackling climate change challenges.

Somali Earth Volunteers took an active role in the conference through presentations, information sharing, and discussions. SEV’s technical team contributed by sharing key studies, experiences, and calls to action. Among the critical issues presented was the urgent need for immediate action to save trees and implement measures to combat deforestation in Puntland, Somalia.

By actively engaging in this conference, Somali Earth Volunteers reaffirms its commitment to addressing climate change challenges, advocating for sustainable environmental practices, and working collaboratively with stakeholders to foster a greener and more resilient Puntland.
